General Note: Part of the CWA Pioneer Interviews Collection. Consists of a biographical sketch of J.A.K. Crawford, an early day resident of Mesa County, Colorado. Born in Nova Scotia in 1858, Crawford came to Colorado in 1881 helping to lay track for a railroad line near Gunnison. He later established a ranch in Mesa County. Not much biographical information is found in this document, although he does relate that the sheriff for an unidentified mining camp near Gunnison shot an African-American man without cause and later went insane for fear of arrest and trial.
