All volumes have red leather cover with gold embossing on front cover and spine. Embossing on spine includes title, volume number and floral design. Coat of arms used by Thomas Jefferson is embossed in gold on front center. The crest features a lion head above a shield encompassing three triangular faces and geometric line design. The shield is surrounded by banner which states, "Ab eo libertas a quo spiritus," translated to "The spirit (comes) from him from whom liberty comes," or "He who gives life gives liberty." The United States coat of arms and line border are embossed on all corners and edges of front and back covers. Interior of front and back cover lined in red, light red and gold paper. Pages consist of printed illustrations, plates, portraits, and facsimiles.
