This albumen print on a card mount was taken by an unidentified photographer circa 1879-1887. The photograph shows the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church at 19th and Stout Streets in Denver, Colorado. In 1879, the A.M.E church remodeled the small cabin which had served as its church into the large brick structure shown in this image. In 1887, the church relocated to 23rd Street. Signatures on the back include R.E. (Richard Edward) Whitsitt (1830-1881), who was the secretary of Denver City Town Company in Denver, and his wife Emma C. Whitsitt Slayden (1842-1912).
