The Wapiti Mining Company owned and worked placer claims in Summit County, approximately six and one-half miles east of Breckenridge, Colorado. The claims were first discovered in the 1850s, and from 1883 to 1891 yielded approximately two million dollars worth of gold. John F. Campion and
associates acquired the Wapiti Group in 1893 and incorporated it as the Wapiti Mining Company. The officers of the corporation were Campion, president; Albert Sherwin, vice-president; Charles Cavender, secretary; and Benjamin Stanley Revett, manager.
