Born in 1834, Stuart was a rancher and writer who engaged in the cattle business in the 1880s in Montana with the firm of Davis, Hauser and Company.
Granville Stuart born 1834, died 1918; travelled overland to California in 1852, removing to Montana in 1857; in 1866 published "A sketch of a trip to American in 1866, and return trip up the Missouri River, to Fort Benton, Montana"; in 1879 formed a partnership with A. J. Davis, Erwin Davis, and Samuel T. Hauser, under the firm name of Davis, Hauser and Company, to engage in the cattle business.
